Who is WTN? and What do we do?

The World Telegram News (WTN News) is KirMedia's flagship news division, specializing in providing insightful and reliable coverage of local, national, and international stories. The World Telegram News operates on various platforms, including our podcast, social media channels, and The World Telegram NewsRadio 91.3FM in Buffalo, NY. The goal is to inform the everyday news consumer with clarity and precision, ensuring that every story we cover is relevant and well-researched.

How we got here — In our founder’s words.

Hi! I’m Edvardi, Director of News and Information Services at The World Telegram News. I started The World Telegram News in June 2021 as a 15-year-old trying to establish himself in journalism using a birthday VISA gift card I got from my grandpa. I didn't realize it then, but deciding to start The World Telegram News and quit my internship at Google was the best decision I’d ever made.

Back then, our reporting was rough, but it gave me the experience and confidence to find what my reporting style was. I realized I enjoyed talking to people and getting their opinions. Likewise, I enjoyed compiling everything I researched about a topic and putting it together in a way that people could digest.

In 2022, our team expanded significantly, as we shifted focus to experimental forms of newsgathering and storytelling. Our specialty, especially in terms of gaming journalism, was praised by viewers, with one user saying "...your editing is unreal. Super impressed with this, really informative and entertaining!"

In 2023, after some setbacks, we began to further establish ourselves as a journalism collective with reporting on topics. This was the year we also began to explore local community journalism. This culminated in our well-respected article, "New Rochelle Mayoral Race: Meet the Candidates", which was published on June 18th of that year. The reaction to this article was overwhelmingly positive, with local news outlets like LoHud (an affiliate of USA Today) reaching out to use our coverage, and a positive article by Talk of the Sound, a local news staple saying “The entire WTN article is a must-read interview”. Other reviews came from people online, with one saying “Very well done! We need more people your age doing this kind of journalism”. In 2023, we also launched "WTN NewsAudio", which is an ongoing series of fast-paced news updates that features coverage in local, national, and international news. Finally, we updated The World Telegram News with a new color palette that's still in use today.

In 2024, with a bigger team than ever, we refreshed our on-air and online presentation with a modernized, minimalist design that puts the news front and center featuring a new music signature. We celebrated the 1st anniversary of NewsAudio, which is our longest-running news product. We also started our broadcasts on WBNY 91.3FM -- which have been praised by listeners -- one going as far as to say "I'm so impressed with the quality of this show and how authentic to the overall concept it is. It's clear you guys had a blast making it, and it's not just the video that shows that".

2025 is gearing up to be a bigger year for us...than ever! We're not holding back on our commitment to trying new things in journalism. We're investing all of our resources into making our social media, web and radio news the best it could ever be. To go a step further too, we're looking towards the future in digital journalism and storytelling. We believe that the future of news isn't replacing jobs with AI, but rather using it in ways that can help make high-quality journalism accessible to communities particularly vulnerable to fake news and misinformation. We also believe that the future of news and storytelling can be found in Immersive, Augmented Reality experiences that put you in the middle of the story to experience news as it was and to interact with data and information like never before.

I, and my team are extremely passionate about what this vision means to us, and as we continue to pursue these goals, we ask for your help and support to make fair, impartial, and innovative journalism the status quo. Thank you!
